Profile
Design is a passion I've had from an early age, whether it was films, TV, stories or games I always wanted to create my own version of each piece of media I consumed. With games this first manifested as creating or modifying board games but when visiting a friend's house I got to play command and conquer on his N64 and I was hooked. Lacking a game console of my own at the time I took to pen and paper, sketching out level designs and troop types for a game I rather uncreatively dubbed command & construct which quickly veered away from the standard command and conquer gameplay to focus on the creation of custom robots and vehicles to fight enemy armies. This urge continued throughout my childhood and teenage years. After playing pokemon red for the first time I was drawing and planning not just new pokemon but new areas, locations and story lines.
As time went on this evolved from sketches and plans, to modding and my earliest attempts at game creation. I modded the Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Fallout 3 and dipped my toes into the Hammer Editor for the Source engine. These projects didn't really amount to much as my vision was usually far greater than my ability or resources could produce but they fueled my desire to create and introduced me to the complex world of game engines and level editors. These days my preferred engine is Unreal 4 though I am building my current project in Game Maker Studio 2 because it serves the 2D pixel art style of the game better. I also have some experience working with unity engine.
I attended Roehampton University to study creative writing and philosophy and afterwards did a variety of jobs before coming across the TIGA's Train2Game course. Since then I've been doing a mixture of education, and work to fund that education as I learn the ins and outs of games design. I am currently working through the final assessment of a City and Guilds games design qualification and hoping to jump into the industry as soon as possible.
